Trump: I was elected in part to pick Supreme Court Justices

.

President Trump said Tuesday night that one of the reasons he was elected president was because of the possibility of multiple Supreme Court nominations, which has come to fruition.

“The Supreme Court is one of the main reasons I got elected President,” Trump tweeted. “I hope Republican Voters, and others, are watching, and studying, the Democrats Playbook.”

Trump nominated Justice Neil Gorsuch shortly after he was elected president, as there was an opening when he entered the office.

Justice Kennedy announced his retirement earlier this year, and Trump nominated Brett Kavanaugh, who is currently in the process of confirmation hearings.

However, Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings have been derailed as Democrats continue efforts to postpone the vote until after the midterm elections, and Christine Blasey Ford came forward with sexual assault allegations against the nominee from more than three decades ago.

Ford told her story to media and lawmakers earlier this summer, but only accused Kavanaugh publicly days ahead of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s vote to send the Kavanaugh confirmation to the floor for a full vote.

Ford, a 51-year-old professor in California, alleges that Kavanaugh drunkenly sexually assaulted her when the two were teenagers, at a party.

Democrats have been pushing for the vote on Kavanaugh to be postponed, hoping to take back the majority in Congress after the 2018 midterm elections in November. The Senate Judiciary Committee vote on Kavanaugh was officially postponed on Tuesday following the allegations by Ford.

Earlier on Tuesday, Trump defended his Supreme Court pick, saying that Kavanaugh does not “deserve this,” and claiming that the allegations should have been brought up a long time ago.
