Maldives police arrest suspects after three injured in possible ISIS-linked stabbings

Three men with possible ties to the Islamic State were arrested by authorities in the Maldives after three people were stabbed in a “heinous attack.”

Two Chinese nationals and an Australian were stabbed Tuesday night on the island of Hulhumale. A Maldivian terrorist group with ties to ISIS released a video on social media claiming responsibility for the attack.

The video reportedly features a masked man flanked by two others wagging his finger at the camera and saying that the Maldives, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, is run by infidels. The man also threatens future attacks in the footage.

Those who were attacked are in stable condition, according to Maldivian authorities.

“We are continuously monitoring the status of the victims of this heinous attack,” police said in a statement Wednesday. “Their condition is reported to be stable.”

Further details about the attack and the three men arrested, including their names, have not yet been released.

The attack comes after ISIS claimed responsibility for a London stabbing spree that wounded two and ended in the shooting death of the attacker.
