Petition to boycott Jimmy Kimmel triples goal, tops 150,000 signatures

A petition calling for a boycott of late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s show reached more than 150,000 signatures Monday after he mocked first lady Melania Trump’s accent and intelligence last week.

Signers are vowing to boycott the show because they say Kimmel calls for tolerance of all immigrants, legal and not, but then mocked the first lady’s Slovenian accent.

The creators of the petition, whose goal at 50,000 has more than tripled, say it will be sent to the front door of Disney’s ABC Studios in Burbank, Calif.

“Let’s send a message that these attacks on our First Lady will NOT be tolerated!” the petition reads.

Kimmel’s segment focused on making fun of the Easter Egg Roll, hosted each year by the first lady of the United States at the White House.

In last Monday’s show, the comedy show host specifically targeted Melania’s Slovenian accent and pronunciations of English words while reading a children’s book to the kids in attendance.

“Guillermo, You realize what this means?” Kimmel asked a counterpart on his show, who, like Melania, is also an immigrant with an accent. “You could be first lady of the United States.”

Kimmel has been in a Twitter spat with Fox News host Sean Hannity, and Hannity vowed to never stop the tirade until the late night host apologized to Melania for his comments.

The ABC comedian did apologize in a statement on Twitter for both the gay jokes he made involving President Trump and Hannity and to the jokes he thought were “harmless” and “silly.”

“Mrs. Trump almost certainly has enough to worry about without being used as a prop to increase TV ratings,” Kimmel said in his apology.
