Real workers know more about this economy than Elizabeth Warren

.

It may come as no surprise to working men and women, but during the first Democratic presidential primary debate Elizabeth Warren clearly demonstrated that she is completely out of touch with them and may not even know what year it is.

Despite the remarkable, record-breaking progress that workers have made in the last two-and-a-half years, Warren went on a bizarre rant about the state of the economy, all but suggesting that the country is headed for a crisis.

“Who is this economy really working for?” the Massachusetts senator asked in her opening remarks. “It’s doing great for a thinner and thinner slice at the top … It’s doing great for people who want to invest in private prisons — just not for the African Americans and Latin-x whose families are torn apart, whose lives are destroyed, and whose communities are ruined.”

Um, it’s working for us. You know, Americans.

Ironically, Warren’s powerful description of the U.S. economy is 10 years too late — she should have made these remarks when the unemployment rate hit 10% 2009, not when it hit a 50-year low in 2019. Moreover, the unemployment rates for both blacks and Hispanics have reached all-time lows under President Trump, making them a curious choice for her to single out during a diatribe about the state of the economy.

But since she brought up the issue, Trump also shepherded the First Step Act into law, dealing a huge blow to the very institutions that Warren hates so much by correcting injustices in our sentencing laws.

Failing to recognize these ironies, however, the senator went on to attack Trump’s policies with every cliched, class-warfare trope in the Democratic handbook, arguing that the economy is only doing great for “those with money,” and that voters “need to make structural change in our government and in our economy.”

Warren offered no facts to back up any of her claims, and for good reason. That’s because the economy is thriving under Trump, making workers more prosperous than ever before.

Since Trump took office, the unemployment rate fell from 4.7% to 3.6% the lowest rate since 1969. In less than 30 months under this president’s leadership, the economy also added more than 5.4 million jobs.

The manufacturing jobs that Barack Obama said were gone for good? Trump has created half a million of them, and has been fueling the fastest wage increases in more than 10 years.

Warren wasn’t the only delusional Democrat who ignored these basic facts and statistics, of course. She was just the most notable.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, for instance, prefaced her opening remarks by arguing that “not everyone is sharing in this prosperity” and that Trump “just sits in the White House and gloats about what is going on.” Former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke similarly insisted that the economy isn’t working “for everyone.”

In the 2016 campaign, Trump proved to the forgotten men and women of America, the ones who sat on the sidelines of our economy for the prior ten years, that they knew much more about our economy than the elites of Washington because they lived it.

Wednesday night, we saw more proof of this. Warren demonstrated that she is not only out of touch with the working men and women of America, but she must not even know what year it is.

Trump knows, and so do the working men and women who are far better off today than they were just three years ago.
