Cecile Richards: If Planned Parenthood is Defunded We’re “Terrified” Women Won’t be Able to Get Abortions

Planned Parenthood abortion business CEO Cecile Richards is very concerned what will happen if Planned Parenthood is defunded at the federal level. She says she is “terrified” that women will not be able to get abortions.

Republicans in Congress are currently putting together legislation that would repeal Obamacare, which funds abortions. In that legislation would be language that would defund the Planned Parenthood abortion company and redirect the funds to legitimate health centers that actually provide women’s health.

In a new interview with BuzzFeed, the head of the abortion giant said it is trying to pull out all the stops to persuade members of Congress to oppose yanking its $500 million in taxpayer funds.

Wrapped in the typical Woman’s Health language that Cecile Richards uses to discuss abortion, she said Planned Parenthood’s abortion customers are “terrified” that they will no longer be able to get abortions. Under the defunding legislation, women will be able to get tangible reproductive health care apart from abortion at legitimate medical centers that do not also kill unborn children in abortions.

“The stakes have become quite clear recently, and they’re very high,” Richards told BuzzFeed News on the drive back from Kenosha to Milwaukee. “The patients I talk to are terrified they’re going to lose their access to health care, and docs and clinicians are terrified that this Senate is going block the women with the least access to health care from getting any at all.

SIGN THE PETITION! Congress Must De-Fund Planned Parenthood Immediately

Richards says the abortion corporation is undertaking an advertising campaign designed to fool Americans into thinking Planned Parenthood is not an abortion business.

Highlighting areas like these is part of a post-election shift back to the center for Planned Parenthood. Within months of the presidential election, the women’s health provider overhauled its strategy from campaigning for federal coverage of abortions to running ads in which a patient tells a story of a Planned Parenthood nurse telling her not to have an abortion.

Richards told BuzzFeed News this is not a shift in messaging, but “an education campaign” to “fill in a picture for people” in certain areas about the non-abortion services Planned Parenthood provides. With the threat of losing their government funding becoming more imminent by the day, the organization is appealing to Republican-voting and often anti-abortion-rights constituents whose representatives and senators may decide their future — hoping they pick up the phone and demand the clinics stay open, like their Democratic neighbors are doing all over the country.

Planned Parenthood does approximately 320,000 abortions every year, about one third of all the abortions in the U.S., according to its own annual reports. It also receives nearly half a billion tax dollars annually.

The new U.S. Congress is working to defund the abortion group. Legislators plan to redirect the tax dollars to federally-qualified community health clinics that offer more comprehensive care but don’t perform abortions.

Earlier this week, LifeNews reported the U.S. House also voted to overturn an Obama administration policy that forced states to fund Planned Parenthood. This move will make it easier for states to defund the abortion group, in addition to the federal government.

A congressional investigation into the abortion business involving its sales of aborted baby parts concluded recently with lawmakers recommending that Congress defund the abortion company.

Planned Parenthood also was exposed this year for not providing prenatal care, despite its claims otherwise, and only providing ultrasounds in preparation for abortions. It also has been caught in numerous scandals involving possible Medicaid fraud and failures to report suspected sex trafficking and sexual abuse of minors.

Recent polls also indicate Americans support the defunding efforts. One new poll found 56 percent of Americans in battleground states want Planned Parenthood defunded.
