Virginia Lt. Gov. Ralph Northam is running for governor. And he’s been doing campaign stops inside abortion facilities to tout his stance on abortion.
To emphasize his support from abortion-rights activists—and Mr. Perriello’s record on the issue—Mr. Northam’s recent campaign schedule has taken him on a tour of the state’s abortion clinics. Last week, Mr. Northam stopped at an Alexandria clinic, where he spoke to a dozen supporters about his efforts to block antiabortion legislation during his tenure in the Virginia Senate.
“My opponent has gone around sticking his finger up and seeing which way the political wind is blowing, switching, flip-flopping on women’s issues, flip-flopping on gun issues,” Mr. Northam said during an interview in the clinic’s lobby. “I have never flip-flopped on those things.”
Mr. Perriello said he has “always been pro-choice,” yet when he launched his campaign he apologized on Facebook for voting to prohibit the Affordable Care Act from funding abortions. In the Tuesday interview he called the vote “the worst vote of my political career.”
Tom Perriello, by the way, was once head of Catholics in Alliance with the Common Good, a group started by John Podesta, Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager.
