Popular blogging site Tumblr will start banning all adult content starting Dec. 17 following the removal of the Tumblr app from Apple’s App Store over a child pornography incident.
The site defines adult content as “photos, videos, or GIFs that show real-life human genitals or female-presenting nipples, and any content — including photos, videos, GIFs and illustrations — that depicts sex acts.”
The move has also raised awareness about another social media site’s change in adult content policies: Facebook.
Although Facebook changed its community standard policies to be more strict on sexual content in mid October, users just began to realize the effects of the new policy on Wednesday after Tumblr made its announcement.
Facebook users began complaining that their posts were being removed at just the mention of sex.
The new Facebook policy bans “vague suggestive statements such as ‘looking for a good time tonight,’” “sexualized slang,” “sexually explicit language,” and even “hand drawn, digital, or real-world art.”
Erotic artists and sex workers currently active on Facebook and Tumblr will need to seek a new platform for their business under these new policies.
