Trump’s approval ratings highest since first 100 days in office: Poll

President Trump is enjoying his highest approval ratings since he marked his first 100 days in office, according to a CNN/SSRS poll released Monday.

While 54 percent of voters surveyed disapprove of Trump’s performance as the country’s chief executive, 42 percent approve, a 7-point bump since CNN/SSRS last commissioned similar research in February.

There has also been a rallying of support for Trump among Americans who identify as Republicans, from 80 percent to 86 percent, and independents, from 35 percent to 41 percent, per the poll.

The fluctuations appear to be driven by voters without entrenched opinions related to Trump, as the percentage of those interviewed who strongly approve or strongly disapprove of him has remained steady over the same period of time.

The president’s strong suit seems to be his handling of the economy, according to the poll, with 48 percent backing his performance compared to 45 percent who do not.

A majority did not support his leadership on foreign trade and foreign affairs. In addition, he fared poorly regarding the domestic issue of gun policy.

Trump’s improved favorability was recorded despite the study also finding that almost two-thirds of Americans believe the women who claimed they had affairs with the commander in chief.

The poll was conducted among a random sample of 1,014 adults from March 22-25 using a mixture of landlines and cellphones. The margin of error for the full sample is plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.
