Trump blames ‘disgraceful’ Democrats for stonewalling confirmation of administration officials

.

President Trump slammed “disgraceful” Democratic senators on Monday for holding up the confirmation of key officials to his administration.

“39% of my nominations, including Diplomats to foreign lands, have not been confirmed due to Democrat obstruction and delay. At this rate, it would take more than 7 years before I am allowed to have these great people start working. Never happened before. Disgraceful!” Trump tweeted Monday.

Trump has repeatedly criticized Democrats in the upper house for slow-walking the process in which nominees requiring Senate confirmation are considered.

While Democrats cannot obstruct Trump’s choices permanently because they lack a simple majority in the Senate, they can manipulate procedural rules to draw out the undertaking.

Of 652 integral administration positions that need Senate confirmation, Trump has 177 nominees still awaiting action, according to a tracker facilitated by the Washington Post and the Partnership for Public Service.

At the same point in former President Barack Obama’s term, 184 nominees were lingering in the Senate but 548 had been confirmed — 161 more than Trump.

In addition, the average time for confirmation in the Trump era is 84 days, the longest time compared to the past four presidents, per the tracker.
