American Restoration: 30% of judges will be Trump picks

President Trump, who plans to have named 150 federal judges by the end of this year, is on a pace to fill 30% of the bench, a historic legacy being tied to the conservative movement to restore America.

Legal experts said that over his first term, Trump is expected to name some 250 judges to the Supreme Court, district courts, courts of appeals, and the U.S. Court of International Trade. Overall, there are 870 federal judges.

“By the end of this year, the president will have likely nominated/confirmed almost 150 federal judges, including two Supreme Court justices; he may well appoint another justice to the Supreme Court before the close of his first term, as both Stephen Breyer and Ruth Bader Ginsburg are now in their 80s. Also, in key circuits where the Left formerly dominated, we have a conservative majority,” said Timothy S. Goeglein, vice president for external and government relations at Focus on the Family.

And that, said Goeglein, a former George W. Bush administration official, is sparking a conservative restoration of the Constitution, which is key to the movement he and co-author Craig Osten described in the new book, American Restoration: How Faith, Family, and Personal Sacrifice Can Heal Our Nation.

In their book, published by Gateway Editions, an imprint of Regnery Publishing, they argue that moving away from allowing changes to the Constitution because it is a “living document” is key. “And one of the major ways to accomplish this is the placement of constitutionalist judges and justices in all federal district, appellate, and Supreme Court openings,” Goeglein told Secrets.

The book points to justices like Clarence Thomas and the late Antonin Scalia and William Rehnquist as the models. “This is restoration along the lines of originalism/textualism/the fixed meaning of the words of the Constitution consistent with Scalia/Thomas/Rehnquist. This is major,” he said.

Their book is a deep dive into how simple Americans, not the government, can help to shape the restoration of the country and heel partisan bickering.

And they don’t claim that their ideas are the best, instead promoting and endorsing those of other conservatives where they feel those ideas are the answer.

It is the latest in a series of conservative books to be released in the last six months addressing the current political and cultural situation in the country. But while those offered some ideas about the current division in the movement and nation, American Restoration offers a 50-year blueprint forward.

“This book paints a picture of what is possible,” said Goeglein.
