Pelosi: Trump has not responded to request to postpone State of the Union

.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said President Trump has not formally responded to her request to postpone the Jan. 29 State of the Union address.

“We haven’t seen a letter to that effect,” Pelosi told reporters Tuesday as she walked to her office in the Capitol.

Pelosi said the Trump administration sent an email “to three or four hundred people,” who work in the Capitol, asking to schedule a walk-through in preparation for delivering the address.

Pelosi did not indicate whether that request would be granted.

Pelosi last week requested Trump postpone his annual address to Congress until the government fully reopens. It is partially closed due to a partisan spending battle.

The House and Senate will take up bills this week that would fund the government but so far none appear to have sufficient bipartisan support to clear Congress.

White House officials said they are still planning on Trump delivering the address on Jan. 29. But Pelosi controls the House floor, so she would have to abandon her request to postpone the event. That hasn’t happened.
