Trump: GOP will do ‘better in the House than anybody expects’

.

Expect to be surprised Tuesday night, President Trump teased hours before polls open for the midterm elections.

During a radio interview Monday with Mark Levin, Trump echoed the confidence expressed by Republican allies about their party’s chances of maintaining power in the House, in defiance of what the pollsters say.

Republicans will do “better in the House than anybody expects,” Trump predicted, noting an “electricity in the air” on the campaign trail that he said reminded him of November 2016, when polling heavily favored his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton.

“Nobody’s ever had an economy like we have,” Trump boasted. “I think we’re going to have tremendous success tomorrow.”

While GOP control of the Senate appears to be safe, most forecasters predict a really good night for Democrats on Tuesday. The nonpartisan Cook Political Report, for instance, expects the GOP to lose dozens of seats and, therefore, control of the House.

Democrats must gain at least 23 seats to have a majority in the House.

But, like Trump, a number of top GOP figures have said they expect surprising results.

“We’ve got a good shot” at keeping the House majority, House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., told Fox News on Monday.

Vice President Mike Pence also told The Hill last week that he believes Republicans will keep control of the House.
