Poll: Majority of Americans oppose impeachment

.

A new poll conducted a week after the release of the Mueller report showed that 56% of Americans oppose Congress beginning impeachment proceedings against President Trump.

The ABC News/Washington Post poll showed that only 37% supported impeachment, with 62% of Democrats saying they do and just 10% of Republicans agreeing.

Opposition to impeachment is up from last summer, when only 46% of Americans opposed impeachment and 49% said they supported the action.

The poll comes a week after the Mueller report was released.

Special counsel Robert Mueller declined to charge Trump with obstruction of justice but laid out 10 different occasions in which he possibly did obstruct justice.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said of House Democrats Tuesday, “we’re not there yet” in regards to impeaching Trump.

The poll of 1,001 adults, conducted from April 22-25, has 3.5-point margin of error.
