Steve Scalise makes triumphant return to baseball field one year after being shot

.

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., returned to the baseball field Wednesday morning, marking a triumphant moment for the congressman nearly a year after he was shot and gravely injured during practice.

Scalise will be attending the Congressional Baseball Game on June 14, but Rep. Mia Love, R-Utah, will be taking his place at second base as he continues to recover.

The congressman was shot in the hip last June as a gunman opened fire at the baseball field in Alexandria, Va., where Republicans were practicing for the annual charity game.

“It was great to be on the ball field this morning. Can’t wait for @TheHillBaseball on June 14th!” Scalise posted to Twitter Wednesday morning.

Scalise also took the field with a walker last year and threw the opening pitch at a Washington Nationals playoff game last season.
