‘The View’ host: Abortion is legal ‘in order to stem’ women drinking Drano and Tide

.

The View” host Whoopi Goldberg said Wednesday that abortion is legal to “stem” women from drinking Tide or Drano and throwing “themselves down the stairs” in order to kill an unwanted baby.

“People don’t remember that one of the reasons it became legal was so it could be done cleanly and you could go someplace which wasn’t a back alley. That was the whole point. Women were being found in bathrooms. Women were being found in apartments that had been abandoned. When a woman decides she cannot do this, she does what she needs to do,” Goldberg said.

“In the old days, she did. That’s what she did. She drank Drano. She drank Tide with tea and coffee. Throw themselves down the stairs. So in order to stem that, they made this legal so that you could go to someplace where you didn’t have that outcome,” Goldberg said.

Her comments were part of a discussion on “The View” about a new Alabama anti-abortion law which bans abortions in all three trimesters with an exception for the life of a mother.

If signed by Gov. Kay Ivey, the bill would be the strictest abortion ban in the country and sets up a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade.

Earlier this month, Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp signed a heartbeat bill which bans abortions as soon as a doctor can detect “a fetal heartbeat in the womb.”

Another dozen states have passed or are looking to pass similar measures.
